Seated Nude is an example of several nudes Bourguignon painted and drew in the 1950s. Notably, he did not idealize the figure. The heavy dark outline is reminiscent of Flemish Expressionist artists from the 1920s–30s such as Constant Parmeke and Gustave De Smet. This style was characterized by somber colors and depictions of sturdy figures with a bold outline.
