Chevaux de Bois (Wooden Horses) is an early pastel painting, one of the few known Bourguignon paintings from the 1930s. In this painting, reality was distorted in order to depict the artist’s feelings or ideas. Artwork was stylized with rich colors, simplified forms, and bold lines.
