L’attente is an early pastel painting, one of the few known Bourguignon paintings from the 1930s. This painting was probably influenced by German Expressionist, Gabriele Münter. German Expressionism, in the early 1900s, often emphasized social, political, and cultural themes. Reality was distorted in order to depict the artist’s feelings or ideas. Artwork was stylized with rich colors, simplified forms, and bold lines.
